Housing Specialist (FT)

Job Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities

Maintains landlord/rental management relations and responsible for on-going assessment, service plan development, short-term counseling and referrals for program-eligible clients.  Creates and maintains individualized residential plans, sets goals, interventions and performance measures for eligible clients. Counsel according to the service plan/community resources and refers clients to community resources.  Works closely with clients meet tenancy requirements. Works with other internal IHS programs (Medical, Case Management etc) and other partnering providers’ housing department staff ensuring that homeless individuals who are appropriate have initiated the application and qualifying process for applications for entrance into appropriate housing.  Chart and document as directed by funding sources and IHS policy. Inspects rental units and assists in conducting on-site behavior training including tenant safety education. Provides life skills training and Housing Assessment when needed.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences or Human Services preferred with 12 semester credit hours of behavioral or social sciences credits. At least 1 year experience in human service field assisting clients to obtain housing, provide counseling and/or life skill resources. Experience working with substance abusing, and mentally ill clients. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people with individualized needs in a counseling setting. Able to work under pressure while in stressful situations and handle a high volume of cases.  Possess strong written/verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills. Computer proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and database applications.  Able to work independently, prioritize, multitask and document daily activities thoroughly.  Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of No-Fault Insurance. Must be able to pass CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) and CPR/First Aid.
