3-5 years experience in maintenance with basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and carpentry methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair specialties. Able to read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Possess strong communication and problem solving skills. Flexible when working independently and with others in a variety of maintenance or beautification projects. Possess High school diploma or GED equivalent. Have valid Hawaii Drivers license.

Assist with the maintenance of shelter facilities to positively impact the service of and provide for the safety of guests, volunteers and staff. Resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns as it relates to the maintenance and upkeep of shelter equipment and property. Clean, service, and maintain a preventative maintenance program or schedule of shelters’ equipment and tools to ensure safety and availability of equipment needed for day-to-day operations. Ensure adequate needed supplies are ordered and stored properly for maintenance and shelter operations. Inspect facilities and IHS vehicles daily and reports any problems or recommendations to the Director of Facilities & Operations. Provide minor repairs and assists in the repair and/or installation of various items, systems and/or components as may be required. Supervises and assists other personnel and/or volunteers to support them in the completion of their work activities relating to maintenance and sanitation projects/assignments. Assist with maintaining attractive facilities and minimizing damage to shelter property. Perform grounds keeping related functions in preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition.
