Mālama Meetup
In 1978, IHS first opened its doors. Completely run by volunteers, our first location offered unprecedented programs for Hawaii’s homeless population: meals, case management, employment services, and help to navigate health care systems.
On August 19th, we’re celebrating this milestone with a Community Volunteer Day that we’re calling Mālama Meetup. Across our emergency and specialty shelters, permanent supportive housing locations, and virtually, we are hosting opportunities for volunteers to help with projects and learn more about our past, present and future!

Hale Mauli‘ola Housing Navigation Shelter
Basic Landscaping & Clean-Up | 9:00 am to 12:00 pm | any group size:
Help clean up Hale Mauli‘ola’s fire lane. Possible tasks include weeding and trash pick up.
*You must be 18 years or older to volunteer at Hale Mauli‘ola.
Kahauiki Village
Basic Landscaping & Clean-Up | 9:00 am to 12:00 pm | 9:00 am to 1:00 pm | 4~6 volunteers:
Come help with landscaping, trimming overgrown bushes, picking up trash, and cleaning and painting vacant units.
Sumner Men's Shelter
