Michelle Kupahu was on the road to recovery when she first heard about IHS’ services.

A close friend who was also getting back on her feet, Vivian Kin-Seu, had recently received housing support and encouraged Michelle to also seek assistance from IHS. Through the help of a housing specialist, Michelle found an apartment that fit her needs. That was more than six years ago.

Today, Michelle resides in Palolo Valley Homes with her daughter and grandchildren. During the week, she works as a cafeteria attendant at Palolo Elementary School, where both of her grandchildren are enrolled. She is able to walk them to and from school, which is a short distance from her home. She works hard to maintain her housing in order to set a good example for her family and provide her daughter with a solid support system.

Looking back on her IHS experience, Michelle reflected, “IHS is awesome. They really want to see you succeed.” Michelle continues to recommend IHS to those in need and knows she can rely on the organization for more than just housing.
