Lacking a stable home for years, Vivian Kim-Seu, a mother of six, often obtained food through homeless service providers in Waianae and Honolulu. Her extended family, who was also homeless at the time, sought help and shelter at IHS and encouraged her to do the same.
Vivian’s pride kept her from asking for individualized help for years, but she eventually reached out to IHS’ housing office. Vivian’s housing specialist was able to find a home for her and her family in Palolo Valley and that Christmas IHS delivered gifts for her and her children. It was the first time they had all lived under the same roof in years.
She now works for the University of Hawaii as a SNAP Education Assistant, teaching healthy eating habits to low income families. She now refers her friends and family who need help to IHS.
