Emergency Shelters

Shelters Offer Stability, Safety & Support

Emergency shelters are a critical safety net for Oahu’s most vulnerable. These congregate shelters provide safety, support, and stabilization.

Once safely sheltered, guests begin working towards regaining their independence. We help them address their basic needs so they can focus on their future. Services include three meals per day, health care, case management, family programs, employment services, financial management, and housing support. All of our emergency shelters are ADA accessible.

Sumner Men’s Shelter

Located in Honolulu on Sumner Street, our Men’s Shelter provides emergency shelter and services for up to 140 men per night. Opened in 1986, this facility was Oahu’s first homeless shelter.

The Men’s Shelter has a commercial kitchen, which serves as the hub for our meal program, and a walk-in medical clinic supporting both the community and IHS clients. Washers, dryers, and cleaning products are available onsite for all guests.

Beds on the first-floor are designated for clients with chronic medical needs. The Men’s Shelter also has a veteran’s dorm room, supporting our Veterans Engaged in Transition (VET) Program.

Women’s & Family Shelter

Opened in 1997, the Women’s & Family Shelter provides emergency shelter and services for up to 66 single women (including kupuna) and 100 family members.

The Women’s & Family Shelter comprises three dormitory areas: singles, kupuna (ages 65+), and family. This facility has a computer lab on the first floor, where guests can learn new skills, meet with case managers, or search for jobs with the help of our Hele2Work program.

Our Children’s Program and Taking Root programs are also based at the Women’s & Family Shelter.
