Employment Services

Getting people back to work

Finding work is key to the financial stability required to afford housing in Hawaii, one of the nation’s most expensive places to live. At IHS, through our Employment Services program, Hele2Work (H2W), we help people who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness to get workforce ready with these services: free business attire, resume writing, interview skills, ESL courses, transportation help, budgeting courses, and skill development. Job coaches also provide ongoing support for clients as they transition to a new job, increasing job retention and success.

Pre-Vocational Training

People get hands-on experience with the Taking Root Urban Agriculture Program in which IHS clients learn aquaponic and hydroponic farming. The produce is sold at local groceries including Down to Earth and Kokua Market. Classes are held a few times a week for people who are homeless are at risk. Taking Root application can be found here.

New Leaf is a pre-vocational training program teaching participants updated skills from the Janitorial, Landscaping & Building Maintenance Industries. Participants may select one or a combination of the three learning tracks, in order to update or learn new skills that can be applied directly in today’s job market. Application for New Leaf training programs can be found here.

Upon completing these courses, participants are able to earn as they learn, or be referred to our business partners for potential hiring. Being part of Hele2Work Family means we work with our participants at their pace and help them progress through their issues.
