We may be able to help.

If you have experienced a reduction in income because of unemployment or reduction in work hours due to COVID-19, The State of Hawaii’s Rent Relief & Housing Assistance Program may be right for you.

This program is designed to assist renters and homeowners by providing them with rental payments, homeowner association dues payments, financial counseling assistance, and loan modification assistance. IHS is one of a selected group of non-profit providers who have been chosen to distribute rental assistance funds.

The Rent Relief & Housing Assistance Program aims to helps households avoid eviction by providing:

  • Monthly rent payments up to $2,000 per household residing in the City & County of Honolulu. Payments shall be made directly to landlords for eligible primary residences on Oahu.
  • Any applicable financial counseling and assistance with rent payment plans for rent negotiation.


  • Qualifying households must not be currently housed in an HPHA public housing or Section 8 program.
  • Qualifying households should be earning no more than the Area Median Income, which can be found in the chart below.
