Housing Program

Navigating Housing

At IHS, The Institute for Human Services, we know that one size does not fit all and for long-term housing stability, it’s critical that we find housing options that best serve an individual’s needs. IHS’ Housing Program offers rent assistance, security and utility deposit money, past-due rent, and social services. We conduct housing inspections, help furnish apartments, provide household goods, offer budgeting assistance, and work with landlords and property management companies.

One of the ways to end homelessness is to prevent it before an individual or household loses their housing (Rapid Re-Housing). Another way is to offer supportive services for chronically homeless persons moving into permanent housing (Housing First & Permanent Housing).

Rapid Re-Housing

The Rapid Re-Housing (including our Homeless Prevention) Program assists homeless households and those at risk of becoming homeless. This program provides short-term rental assistance for homeless households, up to one year and three months of rental or utility assistance for households facing eviction. Supportive services and case management is provided by staff to participants for up to one year to ensure housing stability.

Housing First

The Housing First Program was founded on a homeless assistance approach that prioritizes providing permanent housing to people experiencing chronic homelessness without preconditions and barriers to entry such as sobriety, treatment or service participation requirements. Supportive services and case management are offered to maximize housing stability and prevent returns to homelessness.

Permanent Housing

IHS’ Permanent Housing Program provides long-term housing assistance, case management and supportive services to assist chronically homeless households in achieving housing stability. Participants of the program pay 30% of their income towards their rent, while the remainder is subsidized through the program.
