12 Jul The Locations Foundation helps end hunger & homelessness
May 2020 – Over the past two months, our lives and livelihoods have been upended in various ways. As the economy slowly reopens, many will be able to return to work and resume their normal lives. For some, there will be even greater challenges ahead.
Our island is hungry. The demand for food distribution events around the island underscores the depth of this crisis. There are thousands of families that wait in lines to receive limited supplies of food for their families. With the state’s current unemployment rate at 37 percent, it will take time for many to feel secure that each next meal is a certainty.
At IHS, our meal program has long been a reliable source for individuals and families to get a meal anytime they need it. The IHS kitchen serves three meals per day, 365 days per year, to our shelter guests as well as hungry individuals in our community. Since the crisis began, demand for meals at our shelters increased from 1,000 meals per day to 1,500 meals per day. We expect that number to remain high in the coming months as we enter the next phase of this crisis.
We hope to never turn away anyone in need of food. To meet that goal, we need your help. Join us in feeding Oahu’s hungry today.
Our generous partner, the Locations Foundation, has stepped up to support this initiative with a community challenge to match your donations dollar for dollar up to a total of $10,000. For nearly a decade, the Locations Foundation has proven that we are “Better Together.” As a loyal champion of our work, the Foundation has responded to our needs for financial support and through their annual clothing drive.
Doubling your gift through this matching opportunity will ensure that we can continue to serve all who come to us hungry and in need.
With gratitude,
