Homeless Outreach

We are in need of volunteers to support our team with data entry and legal support to give unsheltered homeless access to needed treatment.

Volunteer Opportunity #1: Data Entry

  • Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, & Fri, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Volunteer’s role:

  • Assist IHS’ Outreach Team members by entering data they’ve gathered and enter them into SAMi databases (System for Award Management) so that they can reach more of our homeless population in hope of having them come into a shelter and receive assistance to get back into housing.
  • Upload documents like identification forms, consent forms, employment verifications, and medical related forms/cards.
  • While experience with SAMi is preferred, we will teach and coach you through this.

Additional Requests / Commitment:

  • We ask volunteers to commit to one or more shifts per week for at least a three month commitment so they’ll have an opportunity to see and learn what we do and how it impacts those we reach.
  • You’ll be learning and working alongside a supervisor to help answer any questions while and your help here will allow our outreach team to be in the field more engaging with the homeless population.
  • We are a qualified college certification program to sign off on community service hours and practicum hours for students seeking scholarships and graduation requirements.

Volunteer Opportunity #2: Legal Services

  • Mon thru Fri, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Volunteer’s role:

  • Licensed attorneys in the State of Hawaii to assist IHS with community outpatient treatment orders for mentally ill unsheltered homeless and petitioning the courts to appoint guardianship's for our clients.

Additional Requests / Commitment:

  • We ask volunteers to respect policies on handling highly confidential data; have a pleasant attitude; work well with all types of individuals including IHS and the homeless.
