Our Urban Agriculture program furthers the mission of our employment program by reintroducing clients to necessary job basics, such as problem solving, time management, following through on tasks, and team work. We believe that every person thrives when they accept self-responsibility and work towards long-term self-sufficiency.
Clients looking to establish career goals or access to job-resources may work with IHS’ Hele2Work program. We offer core employment services that include job search and placement, resume building workshops, interviewing skills, budgeting courses, access to ESL programs, dressing for success, and job skills development. Our Rooftop Education and Training Center’s Urban Agriculture Program is also a venue available to help clients needing reintroduction to job-basics, such as focus and follow through on tasks, time-management skills, and developing self-worth by completing goals.
Due to increasing demand, we at IHS have expanded our employment program to offer more support services to the unsheltered and at-risk homeless individuals throughout Oahu via our Mobile Employment Center. Services offered include resume building, mock-interview training, budgeting and job-retention courses, free bus basses for interviews and transportation to work, access to free cell phones, haircuts, and toiletries. We provide these services three days a week to various communities throughout Oahu.
Clients that have great skills or have previous experience in the cleaning industry have access to enroll in our Janitorial Skills program. This program encourages clients to re-enter the work force, promote healthy work habits, as we nurture their natural abilities and skills. During the program they receive hands on training from a professional, personal development, work skills preparedness, and job placement with the cleaning industry. Our Vocational Training program overall is another facet to self sufficiency and ending a persons homelessness.
Employers wanting to make available job openings and hiring opportunities for our clients are encouraged to partner with IHS. Our Hele-to-Work program will look for the right person among those we serve to meet your need. With client’s permission, we provide support throughout the hiring process and assist with background checks, obtaining driver abstracts, and completing drug testing. If needed, our program will also provide ongoing support for up to 3-months after employment to ensure a smooth transition into stable employment. Partnering with IHS’ Hele2Work services helps employers reduce hiring costs and minimizes recidivism.
Partner agencies needing additional support are also able to benefit from IHS’ services. We assist with core employment and supplemental services that may include haircuts, bus passes, cell phones, clothing, toiletries, and access to housing support services.
